Bait Al Hikmah Library: HMML Repository
Bait al-Hikmah Library
This is the main research library at Hamdard University in Karachi, Pakistan, which was established in December of 1989 through the efforts and collections of Shaheed Hakim Muhammad Said, the founder of the library and university. Named after the famous and destroyed library in Baghdad of Abū Jaʻfar al-Manṣūr, it houses about 300,000 volumes as of 2023, including rare manuscripts in Persian, Arabic, Urdu, Panjabi, Pashto, and Turkish. Its collections also include the translation of the Qurʼan in 66 different languages (with one copy in Braille) and 657 manuscripts from renowned, presently active scholars in Pakistan. The library also supports student and faculty research. Beginning in 2023, HMML will be digitizing the library's rare manuscripts collection.
