Gunda Gundē Monastery: HMML Repository

Gunda Gundē Monastery

The digitization of the Gunda Gundē library, sponsored by HMML in 2006, preserved for posterity an ecclesiastical collection long recognized as one of the largest and most significant in Ethiopia. On-site in a remote part of northern Tegrāy close to the Eritrean border, 219 codices were photographed, constituting virtually the entirety of the present-day collection, one diminished in size from the nearly 300-volume library in existence a century earlier.
