Abtei Marienstatt: HMML Repository
Abtei Marienstatt
The Cistercian abbey at Marienstatt has had a complicated history, especially since the mass closures of monasteries in early 19th-c. Germany. Originally founded in the early 13th c., the abbey was closed in 1802. After that, the buildings were used for various purposes until a Cistercian presence was re-established in 1888. Today the church belongs to the state, while the remainder of the abbey belongs to the Cistercian community. HMML filmed four 15th-c. manuscripts, including a Bible in Latin, a copy of the Rule of Benedict, and a collection of sermons attributed to Bernard of Clairvaux.
