Stift Altenburg. Bibliothek: HMML Repository
Stift Altenburg. Bibliothek
The Benedictine abbey of Altenburg lies about 60 miles northwest of Vienna. Since its foundation in 1144, it has suffered through numerous wars, including the loss of several manuscripts during the Russian occupation (in 1945-1946), but maintains an important research collection. HMML filmed c. 230 manuscripts dated from the 12th to the 19th c. (chiefly prior to 1700).
