Located close to Budapest, the town of Szentendre became a refuge for Serbs and others fleeing the Ottoman Empire in the late 17th century. Although the population now is almost entirely Hungarian, the manuscripts of the historic Serbian community remain. These little-studied 185 manuscripts in Church Slavonic, Greek, and Serbian are part of the tapestry of co-existing nationalities that flourished in early modern Europe.
